A Challenge to Trump Supporters
With Bernie Sanders announcing his presidential campaign, with a historic haul of small donor money, it is time to say something nice about Donald Trump. In fact, three nice things:
No New Wars
As president, Donald Trump has not started a war. In fact, he’s tried (unsuccessfully) to get us out of Afghanistan and Syria. These efforts have been overwhelmed by politicians, both Democrat and Republican, and the military industrial complex contractors they represent. But he should get credit for the effort.
He’s (Almost) Right About the Media
While Trump’s criticism of the media is dangerous, in that he only criticizes news outlets that are critical of him, he is correct in pointing out that the current state of media in general, and news in particular, is a threat to democracy. Mainstream media has become the propaganda arm of the billionaire’s public relations industry.
The irony is, Trump was the singular beneficiary of free media in the 2016 campaign. Bernie Sanders, on the other hand, despite being the most popular politician in America, has been ignored, dismissed, and attacked by most mainstream outlets.
Not For Sale
Bernie Sanders, like Donald Trump is not beholden to corporate lobbyists, billionaire donors, and insider consultants. Now, the fact that, while in office, Trump has been doing the bidding of corporate lobbyists, billionaire donors, and insider consultants, is not lost on Bernie supporters, but one may assume that Trump supporters do not necessarily hold this facet of their president’s administration in high esteem.
A Challenge
Donald Trump supporters, please consider voting for Bernie Sanders in the 2020 primaries. Bernie and Trump are both against establishment institutions such as the corporate media and unending wars. Absent impeachment proceedings, it is unlikely that Trump will have serious opposition in the 2020 primary cycle. Your vote for Bernie will be a vote to assure that we continue the fight against corrosive elements of our society such as the military industrial complex, and corporate mainstream media.
If you live in an open primary state (AL, AK, CO, GA, IL, IN, MA, MI, MS, MO, MT, NH, NC, ND, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, VT, VA, WI), you can walk into the polls on primary day, and cast your vote for Bernie. If you live in closed primary states, you’d have to register as a Democrat.
